Jake Footit struck out six during a 5 2/3-inning stint and the Monroe Catholic Rams limited the Hutchison Hawks to one hit in a 10-1 win in Thursday night’s Mid Alaska Conference baseball game at the West Valley High School baseball field.
Josh Bronson registered a game-high seven strikeouts for the Hawks, who got four strikeouts from Chris Luskeet.
Bronson worked five innings and Luskeet pitched for two.
Gabe Silas accounted for two of Monroe Catholic’s four hits and he drove in three runs.
Izak Lohrke and Issac Garcia provided the Rams’ other hits and had an RBI each.
Hutchison grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Monroe went ahead for good with a three-run burst in the top of the fourth inning. The Rams sealed the win with a four-run surge in the seventh.
WV beats Delta
The West Valley Wolfpack built on a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and went to beat the host Delta Junction Huskies 9-4 in Thursday night’s Mid Alaska Conference baseball game.
West Valley tacked on a run in the top of the fourth and went up 7-2 after piling on three runs in its half of the fifth inning.
Delta Junction closed its scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Huskies softball splits
The Delta Junction Huskies split its first two games of the Rally in the Valley softball tournament Thursday in the Matanuska Valley.
The Huskies rolled to a 13-2 win over the Wasilla Warriors at Wasilla High School, where Delta Junction later lost 6-4 to the Kodiak Bears.
North Pole, Lathrop and West Valley also are participating in the tournament which runs through Saturday.
Results of their games Thursday were not reported.
Tournament games also are taking place at Palmer High School and Redington High School in Knik.
