The entry deadline is approaching for the Fairbanks Golf Association Amateur Championship, taking place  July 26-28 at three area courses.

Fairbanks Golf Course will be the host site on the first day. The tournament moves to Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright for the second day and finishes at North Star Golf Club.

The registration deadline is 6 p.m. July 24 at the Fairbanks Golf Course or North Star Golf Club.

Golfers may register for one day, two days or all three days. Each day, a course winner will be crowned and  on the final day of the tournament, a champion from the three-day entries will be honored.

Registration costs are $25 for one day, $50 for two days and $60 for three days. Participants are responsible for green and cart fees.

Handicaps are required for  the tournament and participants will be placed in flights each day by handicaps.

The tournament features several prizes, including a $500 Hole in One gift card sponsored by FGA and Denali State Bank.

Buns on the Run

Registration is available for the Buns on the Run 5K, set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Creamer’s Field Barn.

The race is limited to 100 participants and it runs along the Creamer’s Field trails.

Pre-registration is available until

2 p.m. Wednesday at Beaver Sports or at the Creamer’s Field Barn. The pre-registration fee is $20 each.

Race-day registration begins at

6 p.m. at the barn and the cost is $25 each.

All proceeds of the race go toward Solaid International (, which provides health and education programs in Kampot, Cambodia.

Equinox Training Run

The Running Club North’s first Steve’s Equinox Training Run takes place from 6-8 p.m. today at the Equinox Marathon starting line next to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center.

The training run is seven miles and water, PowerAide and cookies will be provided.

Participants are asked to leave their dogs home for the training events.

The 51st Equinox Marathon is scheduled for Sept. 21.

Ester Dome Ass-Kicker

The 14th annual Ester Dome Ass-Kicker race takes place Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. from the Golden Eagle parking lot in Ester.

The 6.75-mile race is the fourth event in the Northern Trail Running Series. Registration is free or a donation can be made to Running Club North.

The course gains elevation on the Stone and Sapphire roads, followed by flat terrain across the powerline trail leading to the base of The Chute. The course resumes up The Chute and heads back to the starting line.

If you’d rather pass on the run, or are recovering from Saturday’s Sourdough Triathlon, race officials could use your help as a volunteer.

Top of the World

Wrestling Camp

The Top of  the World Wrestling Camp is scheduled for July 22-26 at West Valley High School.

The featured clinician will be Wade Schalles, a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

The 1991 hall of fame inductee holds several world records, including wins (821), pins (530) and victories over world champions (36, with 17 by pins).

The guest clinician will be Dustin Baxter, a former West Valley standout and three-time NCAA Division III All-American for St. Johns University in Minnesota. Baxter was a Division III national finalist as a senior.

The camp sessions are from 9 a.m. to noon for beginning wrestlers and

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for advanced participants.

The fees for beginners are $150 each and for advanced wrestlers $175 each. Participants receive T-shirts.
