FAIRBANKS — Maurice Maiden was the first thrower in the Boys Group IV softball toss at the Alyeska Track and Field Games on Saturday at Lathrop High School. He made sure to set the standard high.

Each competitor in the softball throw had three attempts to throw a softball as far as they could. Maiden’s, who said he plays baseball, football and basketball, first throw went 137 feet, 10 inches. He followed that up with a 143-feet, 11 inch throw on his second attempt. His third attempt went 149 feet, 8 inches as he won the Boys Group IV competition.
