A number of world-class cross-country skiers that were supposed to be heading to Fairbanks will now not be coming.

The season-opening FIS, the International Ski Federation races scheduled for this coming weekend, have been canceled.

The Saturday and Sunday competitions have been called off by the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks, based on Alaska’s rising COVID-19 numbers. The Dec. 4-5 FIS race series scheduled in Fairbanks also has been called off.
