FAIRBANKS — Christi Schmitz outpaced Trent Sutton by nine seconds Saturday to capture the overall title in the Jingle in July 5-kilometer race in North Pole.

Schmitz, a former North Pole High School and University of Alaska Anchorage runner, finished in 19 minutes, 14 seconds on the course that started and ended at Santa Claus House.

Sutton clocked a time of 19:23, and he was followed 10 seconds later by Benjamin Harney. Cameron Conley placed fourth in 20:51 and Morgan Trosper rounded out the top five in 21:11.

Delta Junction’s Kailey Mills was the second-fastest woman and 14th overall in 23:16.

The race attracted 362 entries and complete overall results are scheduled to be published Tuesday.
