FAIRBANKS—The Lathrop boys basketball team finished the West Anchorage Tournament suffering a 72-60 loss to the Ketchikan Kings on Saturday.
The Malemutes fell behind early and couldn’t overcome the big deficit. Trailing 55-37 into the fourth quarter, Lathrop outscored Ketchikan 23-17 down the stretch to settle for the 12-point loss.
Ray Streeter led a balanced Lathrop offensive attack with a 11-point effort. Tyler Hamilton tallied nine points on three 3-pointers, Kyle Carlson added eight and Stanley Christianson put in seven.
Three Ketchikan players combined for 60 points. Chas Allen poured in a game-high 27 points, Kyle Day nailed five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points and Jesse Lindgren went 7 for 8 from the free throw line and scored 11.
The Lathrop boys are idle until the host Colony on Jan. 27. The Lathrop girls play at Juneau this weekend.
Minto boys win
The Minto boys opened up a 33-23 halftime lead and pulled away in the third quarter to notch a 63-47 nonconference prep basketball win on Saturday afternoon in Minto.
The victory completed a two-game weekend sweep by the Lakers.
Joseph Alexander led the way for the Lakers with 18 points. Travis Charlie chipped in 17 and Dallas Charlie contributed 14 to the winning effort.
John Crabtree was the lone player in double figures for Delta Junction with 12 points. Craig Dvorak added eight in a losing cause.
