Ashmore, Team USA win at deaf basketball tournament

FAIRBANKS — West Valley grad Lawjen Ashmore and Team USA improved to 2-0 on Sunday at the U21 World Deaf Basketball Championships in Samsun, Turkey.

Lawjen currently plays collegiately for Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C.

Team USA downed Mexico 83-24 on Sunday and sit atop the Women Group A standings, tied with Russia and Turkey at 2-0. The Americans have outscored their opponents 143 to 55 through two games.

Team USA takes on Turkey today.
