Kelsey Leeson, was announced as the new Alaska Nanooks swimming assistant coach on Monday.  

“Kelsey’s attributes and credentials stood out to the hiring committee very early in the hiring process, and I am beyond excited to add her to our staff,” head coach Becca Weiland said on Monday. “Kelsey’s passion, leadership and caring demeanor fall perfectly in line with my vision for the future of the Nanook swimming program.”   

Leeson was previously the head swim coach for the Juan Diego Catholic High School (the 2019 Region IX Champions) and the Summit Academy High School teams in Utah.

The former freestyle swimmer was a four-year member of the St. Cloud State University women’s swim team from 2012-16. Leeson was a three-time NCAA Swimming and Diving National Championship qualifier and two-time All-American in the 200 medley relay (2013, 2015). She still holds the school record in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay. 

Leeson’s first official day at the Patty Center will be August 1.
