The West Valley Wolfpack blanked the host Eagle River Wolves, 3-0, on Saturday in a nonconference high school boys soccer game.

Goalkeeper Kristaps Bareika registered his second shutout in as many days and Christian Ebell scored twice to help the Wolfpack improve to 10-0-1 overall. West Valley also is 4-0-1 in the Division I Railbelt Conference.

Ebell gave West Valley a 1-0 lead at the 40th minute after taking a through-ball pass from Seth Phillips and sending a low kick into the left corner of the net.

Ebell made it 2-0 in the 45th minute after applying pressure on the Wolves keeper, who sent his clearing kick into Ebell, who gathered the rebound and rushed with it to the net.

Seth Thomas capitalized on a turnover by a Wolves defender and sent a left-footed shot into the right corner of the net at the 64th minute.

West Valley beat the Chugiak Mustangs, 1-0, on Friday night.

Hutch girls 

prevail

The Hutchison Hawks survived playing short-handed for most of the second half and held on for a 3-2 win over the Redington Huskies in a nonconference girls high school soccer game Saturday in Wasilla.

The Hawks (2-1-2 overall, 0-0-1 overall)  were minus a player after receiving a red card early in the second half.

Hutchison freshman Anya Armstrong scored all three of the Hawks’ goals during the first three minutes of the opening half and senior teammate Sierra Shurr assisted on each one.

Freshman goalkeeper Robin Parker helped secure the team’s second straight win of the trip and the season. Hutchison beat the Houston Hawks, 5-2, on Friday.

Baseball

Andrew Troppman struck out 11 in a complete-game effort and the West Valley Wolfpack downed the Lathrop Malemutes, 12-2, in a six-inning Mid Alaska Conference baseball game Saturday at Marlin Field.

Chase Reed had five strikeouts in a three-inning stint for Lathrop.

Billy Renfrew had three hits and an RBI for West Valley. Lathrop’s Dane Soderlund had a hit and drove in a run.

At North Pole’s Newby Field, the Monroe Catholic Rams beat the Eielson Ravens, 21-8, in seven innings, aided by an 11-run burst in the top of the fourth.

Izak Lohrke and Josh Gray each contributed two hits and four RBIs for the Rams. Teammate Pearson Clark had six strikeouts in 41/3 innings. 

Eielson’s Austin Yates and Brock Renson recorded three and two strikeouts, respectively. 

At Delta Junction, the host Huskies defeated the North Pole Patriots, 15-0.
