JT Schnering, who last spring completed a stellar rifle career for the University of Alaska Fairbanks, was announced Tuesday as the university’s ticket office manager.

Schnering being hired was announced by Keith Champagne, UAF vice chancellor for student affairs and athletics director, in a university release.

Thursday marked the Lathrop High School graduate’s first day in his new role with his alma mater.

Schnering works closely with UAF’s sports information and marketing offices to drive single-game and season-ticket sales, streamline the game-day ticketing line, assist with pass lists and enhance the game-day experience.

He was a student worker for the UAF athletics department for the past three years, assisting with day-to-day and  events operations in the UAF ticketing office and within the Patty Center.

Schnering competed for the Nanooks coed rifle team from 2015-19.

He made four straight appearances for the Nanooks at the NCAA Rifle Championships and was a three-time All-American.

Last spring, Schnering was named the UAF athletics department’s Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year after placing fourth individually in air rifle at the NCAA Championships at the West Virginia University Coliseum in Morgantown, West Virginia.

This summer, Schnering was an assistant camp director for the Civilian Marksmanship Program in Anniston, Alabama.
