The Eielson High School volleyball team claimed the first set against Valdez in Saturday’s finale of an Aurora Conference season-opening series at Eielson Air Force Base.

The rest of the afternoon, however, belonged to the Buccaneers, who won in four sets — 23-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-23 — to sweep the series.

“I think the best thing about my team,” Eielson head coach Nicole Robinson said, “is their resiliency."

“Even though they lost (Friday) night, they could have easily come in today with their heads hung down and not even trying.

“I told them today before we started the game, if you think you can or if you think you can’t, you’re right. You have to make that decision. They showed up.”

Eielson lost 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 Friday night.

On Saturday, Shannon Holan came up with 34 digs and Trinity Eliasen distributed 30 assists for the Ravens.

Sarah Loveless had a team-high nine kills. Jessica Eid and Gabriella Baker chipped in seven kills apiece and Alyssa White had six.

Baker also provided eight assists, while White and Loveless each served two aces.

Eid also had two blocks for the Ravens, who return to action against the Monroe Catholic Rams in an Aurora game at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 in Monroe Catholic’s Boileau Hall.
