Turkey Day Relay

This year's event, presented by Beaver Sports and organized by the Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks, was a mass start held in the classic technique and featured a 3X1-kilometer course for grades K-4, a 3X2K course for grades 5-8, and a 3X4K course for high school and adult teams. 

#derivative of x and the Cabbage Crushers posted the top two respective times in the long Nordic ski races Friday of the Alaska Coffee Roasting Company Turkey Day Relays at the Birch Hill Recreation Area.

#derivative won overall and in the high school boys and mixed division’s 3x4-kilometer relay, as Max Beiergrohslein, Kendall Kramer and Michael Earnhart combined for an effort of 38 minutes, 41.70 seconds. 

Beiergrohslein had a split of 12:13.60, Kramer’s was 14:08.81 and Earnhart finished his leg in 12:19.29. Kramer, a West Valley High School senior, was recently named to the women’s Nordic D squad of the U.S. Ski Team.

The Cabbage Crushers, comprised of University of Alaska Fairbanks skiers Logan Mowry, Sarah Olson and Hannah Deuling, came in second overall for the 3x4K and claimed the open men and mixed division title in 40:00.7. Mowry completed his leg in 11:48.76, Olson finished in 14:13.09 and Deuling clocked 13:58.92 during her segment.

Other division winners in the 3x4K were Coach to Athlete Ratio (open women, 47:49.76), Strawberry Shortcake and Friends (high school girls, 45:40.64), Coaches of ’88 (30-39 women, 40:33.16), Rusty Nails (30-39 men/mixed, 51:02.2), Two Stingrays and a Spouse (40-49 men/mixed, 44:07.93), Team Hanneman (50-59 men/mixed, 49:45.35) and Scum Bums (60-plus men/mixed, 59:27.95).

The Turkey Day Relays included 3x1K and 3x2K competitions for kindergarten through sixth grade skiers.

Winning the 3X1K relays were Turkey Girls (K-1-2 grade girls, 21:43.74), Pumpkin Pies (3-4 grade girls, 18:23.82) and The Three Yahoos (3-4 grade boys, 16:34.51).

The 3x2K winners, both in fifth and sixth-grade categories, were Winner Winner We’re Your Dinner (girls, 34:37.27) and Shrew Wombats (boys/mixed, 29:37.48).
