SITKA, Alaska - A fire truck that served Sitka for more than two decades will find new life on the island community of St. George.

The Daily Sitka Sentinel ( reports the 23-year-old fire truck "Smokey Blue," named for its distinctive, nontraditional color, will be barged to the Pribilof Island community.

St. George has been without a fire truck for five years.

Sitka Fire Chief Dave Miller says Smokey Blue has rust but is in good shape. Sitka retired the truck last year when the municipality acquired a new ladder truck.

The purchase price for St. George was $1. The city also is paying to have it shipped across the Gulf of Alaska to Dutch Harbor and then north to the island.
