Newsminer.com Participation and Reader Agreement

Please read this agreement in its entirety. It contains useful information that will help you better understand the rules and ownership of content and general conduct expected of those who contribute content to this website.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner wants to encourage free exchange of information and ideas. However, we reserve the right (but assume no obligation) to remove comments and/or ban from this free public service those who become a nuisance.

Nuisance comments (even when typographically obfuscated), include, but are not limited to those that are:

  • potentially libelous (slanderous)
  • potentially tortious in any way
  • defamatory or abusive
  • obscene, excessively foul and/or vulgar
  • ethnically objectionable, racist, or otherwise hateful
  • inappropriately sexual
  • baseless personal attacks on any other user, public officials or employees of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, or otherwise threatening, or baiting someone into such comments
  • illegal material or material that infringes on the rights of others
  • commercial postings attempting to sell a product/item
  • completely off-topic material
  • repeated (or incredibly similar) posts on the same story, place, event, etc.
  • personal or business URLs that could be viewed as an attempt to solicit business
  • or any other material that infringes on the ability of others to enjoy our forums.

By participating, you agree not post such material. Comments that are off-topic and are borderline removable will usually be removed; comments that are on-topic will be given more latitude.

Responsibility for what is posted or contributed to this site is the sole responsibility of each user.

By participating, you agree not to have multiple personalities in discussions. Each participant may have only one log-in/screen name. If you would like to change your screen name, please e-mail internet@newsminer.com. Usage of multiple screen names will result in our removing your posting privileges under any screen name.

By participating, you also agree not to impersonate someone else. Under no circumstances are blog participants to knowingly use the name, identity or screen name of another person, whether that is another user on this site, an employee of the News-Miner, a public figure, celebrity, elected official, etc...

We encourage users to use their real names. Comments are generally less effective if an anonymous screen name is used, it is OK with us if you do not to use your real name as your message board handle — although it is a wimpy thing to do.

This forum is meant to provide a platform for diverse voices from the community and encourage an open dialogue, so we assume as little control over comments and blogs as possible. The opinions expressed on blogs and in reader-posted comments are not necessarily the opinions of our site, or representative of Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Inc.

We cannot and DO NOT review every single comment. So, take what you find with a grain of salt. Please be aware that many people in online communities simply enjoy trying to upset others. Ignore them or flag their comments for removal. Generally, such people will simply move on after they receive little attention.

We do not endorse or guarantee the accuracy of any user contribution, regardless of whether it comes from a user, celebrity, "expert," or other source. The opinions expressed on blogs and in reader-posted comments are not necessarily the opinions of our site, or representative of Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, Inc.

More than likely, regular users will see user contributions before anyone on staff here does. This may include information and opinions from a variety of individuals and organizations other than official content from this Web site and its staff.

Any user who feels that a contribution to this Web site is objectionable is encouraged to click the "Report Abuse" link related to the specific post or posts. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so — within a reasonable time frame — if we determine that removal is necessary.

Participants agree not to upload, post, distribute, e-mail or otherwise publish or make available on this Web site any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or any other form of solicitation.

Participants also agree not to upload, post, distribute, e-mail or otherwise publish or make available on this web site any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware, telecommunications, or other equipment.

You agree that you will not knowingly give out any private information about others. Users who engage in the behavior of continually trying to guess other users’ private information may be banned and their account and contributions removed. If this type of action is thought to be happening on this website, we reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we may know about you, including your IP address(es)) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from this type of action.

By participating, you agree not use this forum to violate anyone's rights in copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property. By posting comments, you are representing that you are the owner of the material, or are making your submission with the explicit consent of the owner. Submitting material that is the property of another without the specific consent of its owner is not only a violation of this user agreement, but may also subject you to legal liability for infringement of copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.

Please be aware that once you post a comment to this site, you will no longer have control over it. We cannot feasibly manage requests for everything from a typo correction to removal of comments. It is also possible that we may include your comment — in part or in its entirety — in the print edition of the News-Miner or one of our company's other products.

By participating, you agree that the content and your thoughts on Newsminer.com automatically gives Newsminer.com a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive right and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, disseminate, perform, transmit and display such content (in whole or part) and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed for the full term of any rights that may exist in such content. If you are not the owner of such content, you shall be deemed to have warranted that the owner of the content has expressly granted to you a similar license.

By participating in our blogs, you agree to abide by the terms of this agreement.

We retain the right to revoke access privileges of anyone who we believe has violated any of the terms outlined here or if such user is deemed a problem to either the site or its other users. We also reserve the right to ban any user and his or her comments from showing up on this Web site, without notice. (If your account has been banned and you believe you have a reasonable case to make regarding reinstating your account, contact internet@newsminer.com)

Newsminer.com may ban any user, or delete any post, or take any action with regard to its Web sites related to user submitted content.

We reserve the right to change this agreement at any time.
