HEALY — Denali Borough voters want their mayoral candidates to live here awhile before running for that office.

A proposition that would have changed that residency requirement from three years to one year failed, 272-315.

The assembly put this on the ballot after learning of a similar multi-year residency requirement that was challenged legally in another community.

A steady stream of voters hit the polls in the Denali Borough on Election Day even though there were no locally contested races.

By the time the polls closed, 335 voters had cast ballots in Healy, 101 in McKinley Village, 84 in Cantwell, 61 at Rochester Lodge and 74 in Anderson.

Running unopposed for the Denali Borough Assembly were Clay Walker, Richard Weibel and Jared Zimmerman. Walker received 511 votes, Weibel 491 votes and Zimmerman, 470 votes.

Denali Borough School Board candidates were James Tench, Christie Anastasia, Leroy Sutton, Jeff Yanuchi and Todd Shorey. Tench received 473 votes, Anastasia 474 votes, Shorey 67 write-in votes, Yanuchi 456 votes and Sutton 448 votes.

Absentee ballots remain to be counted.
