To the editor:
I traveled to Fairbanks this past July accompanied by my service dog and a friend. It was a short-notice trip and we did not make advance hotel reservations.
Much to my surprise, most of the hotels in Fairbanks would not accept my service dog. This is an affront. My service dog is not a pet. She provides a legitimate service. There was only one hotel where my dog was welcome.
Not accepting a service dog is a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I was astonished and gravely disappointed. I will be unable to recommend Fairbanks as a travel destination to anyone traveling with dogs, service or otherwise.
