FAIRBANKS — The American Heart Association, through its Go Red For Women initiative, has paired with Macy’s, its national sponsor, to offer college scholarships to help increase the number of underrepresented minorities in medicine. This is the second year of the program.

The Go Red Multicultural Scholarship Fund will award 16 $2,500 national scholarships to multicultural women pursuing higher education in health care.

A news release from the American Heart Association says the association is striving “to expand the pipeline of much-needed diverse nursing and medical students and address important gaps in treatment that can lead to heart health disparities.”

Candidates must complete an application, personal essay and submit two letters of recommendation.
