FAIRBANKS - Rep. Steve Thompson was named earlier this month as legislator of the year by the Associated Builders and Contractors and the Farm Bureau.
Thompson, a Republican from Fairbanks, was recognized by the ABC at its annual meeting on Nov. 2 and by the Farm Bureau on Nov. 9, according to his office.
“It’s a nice pat on the back for the work me and my staff put into the past two years,” Thompson stated in the news release. “I’m thankful to the Associated Builders and Farm Bureau for these honors. They are a pair of worthwhile local organizations that do so much for Alaskans. Agriculture and the building trades are important parts of Alaska’s economy, and they offer pathways to careers and training for many of our family, friends and neighbors.”
The ABC cited Thompson’s work on issues impacting the state’s economy. The Farm Bureau honored him for introducing House Bill 181, which would have created a Department of Agriculture and Food.
