Kenai Peninsula utility rates climb

Stumble It!KENAI -- Kenai Peninsula residents can expect to see bigger electricity bills.
Homer Electric Association says the wholesale power cost-rate adjustment went up nearly one cent per kilowatt hour.
The rate adjustment is the part of the electric bill that reflects changes in the cost of power the utility purchases from Chugach Electric Association.
Homer Electric says the new rate will mean an increase of $4.86 a month for the average household.

As long as electrical generation is produced from fossil fuels the cost of electricity will keep pace with the cost of these fuels.
Alaska has tremendous hydro-electric potential. Let's build the Susitna Dam and heat our homes with cheap renewable clean hydro-electricity. The fuel, water, is free, and renewable forever !
Bradley Lake, near Homer, produces 90 MW now for just pennies per kilowatt-hour (GVEA gets 20 MW of the 90). It was built in less than five years for less than $300 million.
Susitna has 1600 MW potential (actually more if all four proposed dams are built). It's only 12 miles from the Parks Highway and the existing intertie.
