A better place

To the editor:

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. For now we are facing an evil from the Far East and a very terrible menace right here in the United States of America.

It seems that the political “stage” in which we are presently embroiled in has gotten quite contentious. As in, you’re wrong — no, you are wrong.

How in the world did this bone of contention become such a division of white and black. Aren’t we all Americans under the skin? I have always been taught that there is good and bad in every living (and sometimes not so living) person.

As the old Cherokee grandfather said to his grandson — it all depends on which of the wolves within you that you feed. Is it too much media input — parental lack of control over their children — or the rage of Mother Nature in her fun — or the cost of basic necessities spiraling out of bounds (Big Oil)?

It seems to me that if we take the time and apply the effort to be the kind, loving, sensible adults that our parents instilled in us throughout our upbringing that maybe, just maybe, we could make this world a little better place.

It seems so sad these days to watch the country self-destruct because of greed, avarice and stupidity.

I am thinking of moving to the Brooks Range to get away from all these danged “civilization” freaks. Please do not try to push things down my throat as they have a way of coming back to bite one in the butt.

What exactly does "Lets make Fairbanks a better place" mean? If it means making it more like the place you left to move here (Cali, East Coast, Twin City suburbs etc) I think I'll pass.

It means, to me, being kinder to one another... acting in honesty and with honor, working to improve the community be it starting a new business, doing better in your work, volunteering or just picking up the trash you come across. Treat your city as the city you would like to live in, not the one with the problems you bemoan.

My answer to a better life is:
Work as if you don't need the money. Love as if you never been hurt. And dance as if nobody is looking.

We have community leadership that fails to act or live their lives upon these virtues written about. The majority of the people in this community are honest, hard working, virtuous people. Seek them out and you may not have to move into the wilderness. You will find the wilderness is within you.

Fairbanks is already the better place. The way to keep it that way is to support locally owned businesses and to develop our own manufacturing and agriculure.
My uncle always said the grass always looks greener on the otherside, then you get there and find out it's only crabgrass.
