San Diego man dies in motorcycle crash on Dalton Highway

Published Tuesday, June 10, 2008

COLDFOOT -- Alaska State Troopers say a California man died in a remote motorcycle crash on the Dalton Highway, a mostly gravel road that leads to Prudhoe Bay.

Fifty-seven-year-old Terry Bowyer of San Diego on Monday lost control of his motorcycle at about 5:30 p.m. on a curve near Mile 132.

The location is near Gobbler's Knob, a site at 1,500 feet that overlooks the Jack White Range and several river drainages. Mile 132 is 76 miles north of the Yukon River.

The motorcycle rolled several times. Bowyer was thrown off and died at the scene.

Bowyer was riding with other motorcyclists.

Troopers say it's not clear why Bowyer lost control of the bike.

It just looks like one. If there is an official story like some of the other places, I've never heard it. Fantastic view from there...
