To the editor:
I’d like to thank the staff and management of the Carlson Center for their hospitality during the wait for Elton John tickets Saturday. I had come to the Carlson Center early Saturday morning, expecting to wait out in the cold, when the line began moving at 8:45 a.m. (the ticket booth wasn’t supposed to open until 10) — it was just the Carlson Center opening their doors to let people wait in the warmth of the Carlson.
As I walked in, I was told by Security that they were passing out coffee and pastries, and when I walked in, I saw the carts being wheeled up and down the hallway. I thought surely they must be charging people for them, but to my amazement, they were passing out the refreshments for free.
It sure makes me proud to live in Fairbanks, where even the commercial establishments show kindness and generosity, and help make Fairbanks a wonderful place to call home. Thank you!

yeah but all that for elton john, thats like not even a payoff! you just spent hundreds of dollars for a pastry...

how do you justify paying that much for tickets to ANYTHING!!! would you tithe that much? would you donate that much for any charity group? ridiculous, says i.

what about wasting your money on frivolous activities in fairbanks? how many hundreds of thousands of dollars have been BURNED away by having this guy dance around on stage.
AND CALM DOWN MAN!! i was just implying how he dresses, your getting all defensive on the GLBT thing. i have nothing against you for your lifestyle. i don't think elton john makes all kids gay, i think satan does. im just kidding...

I think anyone who earns their money also earns the right to spend it as they wish. I'd like to be able to pry the money out of my own budget to attend the concert, but it just isn't there. That's the way it goes sometimes.
Given the state of the local economy, my hat is off to anyone who can spend big bread for an entertainment event. When things turn around a bit financially maybe I can join you, or maybe I'll choose some other form of entertainment. Either way - if it's my money I'll spend it as I wish.

casey does anything come out of your mouth but hate and ignorance? Every comment you add is distasteful at best. You are a perfect example of some one that thinks they are intelligent but the reality is that you missed the first lesson of them all; if you NEVER have something constructive to say, you should keep your mouth shut.
I was also impressed by the patience of those who waited in line. I was there with my 3 year-old, who was very energetic, especially after one of those delightful (sugary) pastries. Those who waited in line showed her patience and kindness. One person even offered to save my place in line if I needed to take her somewhere else to run off her energy. (We gratefully agreed)!
My mom gave me money for my birthday and I chose to spend it on a ticket for this concert. The blessing of the patient crowd was as much of a gift as the concert ticket. Thank you, folks!
To be fair, burninator set the tone for a nasty exchange. Why come into a positive thread about an event to start insulting those who are going to the event? What do you hope to accomplish by coming in here and stirring things up? So you don't like Elton John. That's great. Why come here where people obviously DO like Elton John?

Instead of tickets, I will buy some heating fuel.

Enjoy the concert if you're going. Don't worry abot it if you aren't/can't/won't.
We bought 6 tickets and will enjoy every minute of going to a great concert with our closest friends and we're going to have a blast. The fact that we're seeing Elton John in lil ole Fairbanks is hysterical. It will be a great memory maker.

Have you ever been to a concert in the Sullivan Arena-those are pretty bad. Although to be fair I have not yet been to one at the Carlson Center so I cant compare.
no the carlson center is pretty bad as far as acoustics go.
thats why ron white got boo'd, he was too cheap to bring his own sound people and the carlson center ruined it. you couldnt hear a thing.
and as far as people go on the whole being nice thing,
where is your sense of debate? elton john will always be a hot ticket for a debate. and that pastry in the face comment was a good one.
