ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police say a man is dead after walking into traffic.

The Anchorage Daily News reports ( ) that it happened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in a crosswalk on Tudor Road at its intersection with Arctic Boulevard.

Police Lt. Dave Parker says witnesses reported seeing the man walking south on Arctic against the "don't walk" signal. They said he was struck by a Honda sedan that had a green light.

Police have not released the man's name as they continue attempts to contact his family.

Parker says the driver was pretty shaken up, but did the right thing by remaining at the scene.

The intersection was closed for about two hours as officers investigated.
