Elizabeth Shapland, left, Cynthia Dorman, middle, and Diane Claassen cut material for quilt blocks Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, during an AmeriCorp VISTA day of service at the Girl Scouts Farthest North Council building. Members of the Cabin Fever Quilters Guild, girl scouts, AmeriCorp volunteers, Fairbanks Rescue Mission, Joel's Place and friends of friends were helping make quilts that will be given to children and teens. The Martin Luther King holiday was chosen as a day of service around the country as "A day on rather than a day off."
