Traditional moosehide boat

With two Native elders guiding him, Cantwell student BJ Gore learned a traditional skill that otherwise might have been lost to future generations. Gore, a high school senior at Cantwell School, created a traditional moose hide skin boat.

Nick Dennis, 80, of Nikolai, supervised the project, by recalling how his own father built a similar boat back in 1945. He doesn’t remember this kind of craft being constructed since then.
