Water from the Tanana River backs up into Old Minto on Thursday, May 8, 2008. Five people were stranded at the Old Minto Family Recovery Camp. An Army MAST helicopter responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m. and the five employees, Walter Fitt, 58, Charlie Titus, Jr., 60, Greg Alexander, 40, Dana Pictou, 57, all of Fairbanks, and Donald Charlie, 50, of Nenana, waded 75 feet through waist-deep water to reach the helicopter.
Some of the finished sweaters are put on display as knitting partners gather to finish up and donate handmade sweaters to Knit For Kids Wednesday afternoon, May 7, 2008 at Pearl Creek Elementary School. Sixth graders teamed up with adults to learn the craft and take turns knitting rows on the children's sweaters as part of the Guidepost Knit For Kids program, which receives nearly 4,000 sweaters per month that are distributed worldwide through charitable organizations to help clothe needy children.
