Letter to the Editor

Dec. 1, 2012

To the editor:

I am sure the Athabascan word of the week is published in the News-Miner for the majority of us locals who do not speak this language. That weekly article would be of at least some use to us if the English phonetic pronunciation of each word were included with the definition, so we would know how those words sound to our untrained ears. Otherwise, the words are still foreign to us and just a waste of space in the newspaper.

The author needs to rethink her goal in publishing this weekly item. Obviously as it exists now, this item is of no benefit to most of us, which is a shame. As far as I am concerned, it may just as well be in Chinese. I am interested in learning the words, but as they are presented, it is not possible. There must be some correlation to the English dialect that could be included.
