Why the AK-47 ad?

To the editor: I was born and raised in Texas and have lived in Alaska for more than 20 years. I support responsible gun ownership.

But with almost every news source these past couple of days headlining the horrible gun violence in both Texas and Ohio, I’m really disturbed by the fact that our daily newspaper is making money by running a classified ad for the sale an AK-47 gun with three 30-round magazines of ammo. This type of firearm has been used in mass killings in this country. I find it appalling.

This is not a recreational weapon. How can our community ensure the safety of our families when our sole newspaper supports selling these weapons with no mention of background checks or even age requirements?

Again, I’m appalled and very disappointed in the News-Miner.
