True Alaska spirit

To the editor: A few days ago, my wife witnessed a truly Alaskan act of kindness. All four lanes of fast-moving traffic on Farmers Loop Road came to a halt, allowing a mother duck and her well-mannered ducklings safe passage from one side of the road to the other.

Another recent authentic Alaskan act was the inaugural “Recall Dunleavy” petition-signing event held statewide. It was an overwhelming success, not only because of the many thousands of Alaskans who signed in the first few hours but also because this outpouring of spirit is just the start.

Today, as news headlines spread across my computer screen, I did a double take reading the headline “Governor resigns.” Sadly, it was not our own obdurate governor but Puerto Rico’s. Congratulations and good luck to the Americans of Puerto Rico. Our turn is next. Visit the website recalldunleavy.org for more information.
