Letter to the Editor

Reelect Shaun Tacke

To the editor: I encourage the Fairbanks community to keep Shaun Tacke on the Borough Assembly. I have known and worked with him for years. He is born and raised and educated in Fairbanks, and I cannot underscore enough the value of that in serving as a representative of local residents. I respect his intelligent approach to issues and common sense in determining the best course of action for the community. This includes recognizing and improving on the efficiencies of borough operations but also seeing that services have been cut back almost as far as possible without regressing on what residents expect of their local government.

Shaun’s occupation as a financial officer and accountant serves him particularly well in the Dunleavy era of budget cutbacks to municipal governments. He will continue to seek fair and moderate solutions to maintaining necessary services without putting additional burden on property owners. His principal opponent is supported by the same conservative groups that endorse Governor Dunleavy’s draconian budget programs, and while he seems a good man, he should not replace a better one already in place.

To the 70% of local voters who have shown their support for a viable legal cannabis industry, I encourage you to make sure to vote for Shaun Tacke on Oct. 1. While the industry has created hundreds of local jobs and over $1 million in tax revenue to the city and borough, as well as causing no harm to the community, the opponents of legal cannabis still fight at every opportunity to take this right away. We need to elect or keep fair, open-minded representatives in our local and state governments to ensure those opponents never again gain traction.

Vote for Shaun Tacke on Oct. 1.
