Letter to the Editor

No Elephants or Donkeys

To the editor: Kick the Elephants out of the room. And the Donkeys too. The impeachment trial is not a partisan event.

Ask our senators to participate as impartial jurors as they have sworn to do and that the trial include documents and evidence and that witnesses be called.

Ask our senators to refuse to allow Trump and McConnell to obstruct the testimony of witnesses from the House proceedings or administration staff. Since John Bolton has expressed his willingness to testify if subpoenaed, request a subpoena. Anything less shows fear of the truth and does not show a respect for the duties defined by their oath to be impartial jurors.

Brave testimony from State Department employees revealed facts regarding Trump’s words and actions to the president of Ukraine and was a rare opportunity to meet intelligent, honest and responsible public servants who love their country. Demand a fair trial and a discussion of the laws related to an impeachable offense. Constant lies and corruption in the Trump administration destroy our trust in government and create confusion and chaos.

Trump will be emboldened if he believes that his behavior to enlist and bribe a foreign government to get involved in our election by withholding appropriated funds is not considered an impeachable offense. Trump abuses the law in the same way he flagrantly has bragged about abusing women. If a senator is not impartial, recusal is their only choice. The American people deserve to hear the truth. Let’s support and reclaim a healthy democracy. A fair trial can be that beginning.
