Letter to the Editor

BP should sell to us

To the editor: The ongoing controversy about Hilcorp’s potential purchase of BP’s assets in Alaska and the ongoing controversy about Senate Bill 21 oil tax credits and Alaska’s Fair Share and the ongoing controversy about the PFD formula has brought me to the conclusion that Alaska should take hold of its own destiny and purchase BP’s assets in Alaska (and also any of Conoco’s that they are putting on the block).

Investing the Alaska Permanent Fund in Alaska oil fields would rid us of the continuing propaganda about oil taxes and could start keeping the oil profits from leaving the state. We can hire the expertise to get the oil out of the ground, and we would be better stewards of the environment than anyone else and better protectors of the local economies by ensuring maximum local hire. We have the money and it would be a great turnkey business venture that could pave the way to a more prosperous future.
