A little litter letter

To the editor: The News-Miner’s Nonprofit Resource Guide had a great page on the Fairbanks Litter Patrol. It’s wonderful that this organization provides summer jobs for young people and cleaned up more than 300 miles of roads and bike paths, rivers and ponds this year. Our community would be much less scenic without that work. Thank you to Sourdough Fuel, Cold Spot Feeds, Kris Capps and many others who support this nonprofit.

Missing from the list of supporters were any of the food or beverage companies around town. As a bicycle commuter, I often pick up roadside trash. Most of this trash is from food take-out or beverage containers. The companies that should be top supporters of the Fairbanks Litter patrol are businesses like McDonald’s, Holiday gas stations, Oaken Keg and Fred Meyer. I encourage employees of these types of businesses to post this letter where management can see it.

Thanks to all our great nonprofits.
