To the editor: I’m confused about why the News-Miner printed the article in Friday’s Outdoors page titled “A bear’s life.” It could have been more aptly titled “A bear’s very sad death.” I’m sure it upset many people who like and respect wildlife for its own intrinsic value. Was it an attempt to glorify a few greedy hunters who seemed completely devoid of compassion? Or was it an exposé of the brutality of this particular hunt? Alaska is full of interesting, exciting and wonderful stories about the outdoors. I’m not sure this is one of them.
