FAIRBANKS — Fairbanks North Star Borough Mayor Luke Hopkins has announced the last two nominees to join the recently formed municipal gas utility.

Oran Paul and Jim Laiti will be considered by the Borough Assembly at a special meeting Thursday to fill out the seven-member board of the Interior Alaska Natural Gas Utility.

Paul is the vice president and chief operating officer at Fairbanks Sewer and Water.

Laiti is a longtime North Slope employee who also worked with military base plants and utilities as well as with Alaska refinery construction and maintenance projects.

If approved, Paul and Laiti will join Bob Shefchik, Bill Butler, Steve Haagenson, Frank Abegg and Michael Meeks on the board, which has held two meetings so far.

The board has indicated it will meet weekly to work out the details on the utility infrastructure as well as its purpose. It is scheduled to meet next at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Fairbanks City Council chambers.
