June 26, 2009 — At least six schools in Interior-based school districts are in danger of closing next year because of low enrollment, according to superintendents at the Iditarod and Yukon Flats districts.

The endangered schools include those in Central, Stevens Village, Takotna, Beaver, Anvik and Shageluk.

June 26, 1994 — The young couple held hands, hugged and kissed. People nearby remarked how much the pair looked head-over-heels, crazy-in-love with each other.

The two women, Kinue Armstrong, 18, and Kristine Nelson, 28, were among the more than 100 people who turned out for the Fairbanks’ second annual Gay Pride march.

June 26, 1944 — LONDON — Premier Josef Stalin of Russia in an order of the day today announced the capture of Vitebsk.

Vitebsk is the last of the big German bases east of the Baltic states border.
