FAIRBANKS — The driver of a semi pulling in to get gas dislodged a unit of fuel pumps at a gas station in south Fairbanks on Friday morning, but no fuel was spilled.

The impact was enough to break the fuel pipes inside the gas pumps but the pumps were designed to be breakaway units and no gas was spilled, said Lt. Dan Welborn with the Fairbanks Police Department.

The semi driver, who was not identified, told police he thought the right front end of his 2010 Kenworth was clear of the gas pumps when the truck struck the pumps. Damage was estimated at between $26,000 and $30,000, police said.

An officer from the Department of Measurement Standards & Commercial Vehicle Enforcement responded to the accident, which occurred at 11:50 a.m.
