A third person has been arrested in connection with an Aug. 30 hotel room invasion and robbery.
Tasha E. Swanson, 37, of North Pole, is charged with first-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence. She was arraigned in Fairbanks District court Tuesday afternoon.
Swanson’s co-defendants in the case, Michael Randy Cofey, 37, of Anchorage, and Joseph Walton Cofey Jr., 41, of Fairbanks, were charged Aug. 31 with first-degree robbery, first-degree vehicle theft, second-degree theft, two counts of third-degree assault and kidnapping.
According to charging documents, surveillance footage shows Michael Cofey enter the front door of the Best Western on TVSA Way and opening a side door for Joseph Cofey and Swanson. The three are then seen walking up a stairway to the second floor.
A couple staying in a second-floor room called Alaska State Troopers at 10:03 p.m. to report two men and a woman had held them at gunpoint, threatened to shoot them and left with their cell phones and vehicle.
The female victim told troopers that Michael Cofey had visited their room shortly after they arrived and left his cell phone behind. He knocked on their door about an hour later and the woman opened it after he identified himself. Joseph Cofey and Swanson both pointed guns at the couple and ordered them to the ground before robbing them, according to the complaint.
