FAIRBANKS — After a legislative session working with North Pole Rep. Doug Isaacson, former Denali Mayor Dave Talerico has left the office.

Talerico served as mayor of the Denali Borough for 10 years before joining the office as Isaacson’s chief of staff. He has left for a private industry job in Healy.

“I really appreciate Dave coming on board. He brought with him a depth of experience and statewide expertise from the perspective of a borough mayor that was significant,” Isaacson said. “His way of working with people is extraordinary and it helped us accomplish all that we did.”

Talerico ran for the state House in 2010, coming up short against Rep. David Guttenberg, D-Fairbanks.

The empty position has been filled by Brenda Hewitt, who worked in Isaacson’s office during the last session. A Juneau resident, Hewitt will work mostly out of the Capitol during the interim.

Brandon Brefczynski, who worked for North Pole Rep. Tammie Wilson, joined the office and will work out of the North Pole.

Brefczynski has worked in the Legislature for three sessions and is a University of Alaska Fairbanks graduate with a degree in political science.
