FAIRBANKS — An account of an attempted sexual assault early Saturday morning on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus was a false report, University of Alaska Fairbanks police said Monday.

The university sent out a Nixel alert to the public at 1:30 a.m. Saturday after a 21-year-old woman said a man tried to sexually assault her near the Haida Parking Lot trail.

On Monday, police determined the woman made a false report, according to university spokeswoman Marmian Grimes. The police forwarded a charge of making a false report, a misdemeanor, to the Fairbanks district attorney.
