FAIRBANKS — Marilyn Guttenberg, the wife of Fairbanks Rep. David Guttenberg, died Monday morning in Seattle after a long battle with cancer, the lawmaker’s office confirmed Monday.

Marilyn Guttenberg had been active in her husband’s campaigning and local and state politics. In 2012, she founded the political action committee Ladies of the Valley to address women’s issues.

At their home in Goldstream Valley, the two were active with gardening and caring for their animals.

David Guttenberg was absent during much of the 2013 legislative session to be with Marilyn, but returned for critical votes in the final weeks of the session.
