FAIRBANKS—Fairbanks police are investigating the death of a 56-year-old man whose body was found near a busy north Fairbanks road.

Police responded to 910 Old Steese Highway at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday after getting a call about a man in a ditch. They found Phillip Ross Williams, of Fairbanks, deceased with a bicycle next to him, according to city spokeswoman Tami Misrasi.

The bicycle was undamaged and did not appear to have been hit by a vehicle, Misrasi said.

The cause of Williams' death is undetermined at this time, and his body has been sent to the state medical examiner in Anchorage for autopsy.

Williams' next of kin have been notified.
