Fairbanks police are investigating the death of a woman found inside a vacant apartment Sunday evening as a homicide.

Kristen Ballot Huntington, 30, was last seen leaving her Hamilton Acres apartment on foot the evening of Jan. 8, according to Facebook posts by friends and family. She was officially reported missing on Friday, and police began searching the area around her apartment on Sunday.

A woman's body was found inside a vacant Hamilton Acres apartment Sunday evening but Fairbanks police could not confirm her identity at that time.

A candlelight vigil hosted by Indigenous Lives Matter will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Participants are asked to dress for weather conditions and meet at the parking lot of Hamilton Acres Apartments off of B Street and Farewell Avenue, according to the #rememberkristen Candlelight Vigil Facebook event page.
