The Alaskan Command Arctic Symposium is underway at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, bringing with it discussion of the military in the Northern landscape.
The Alaskan Command Arctic Symposium 2019 is being held in support of United States Northern Command and is being hosted by its Alaska unit, Alaskan Command, at the university through Friday after beginning on Wednesday. While closed for registration, the symposium gathers a range of experts to discuss Arctic defense and security, as well as interests in and challenges of the region.
Sessions include discussion of military partnership with indigenous communities, Arctic science and environmental changes, law enforcement challenges and trips to the Army Corps of Engineers, Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility, the trans-Alaska oil pipeline, Poker Flat Research Range and the UAF Alaska Center for Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration.
