FAIRBANKS — Next week Alaska will be participating in the Great ShakeOut, an exercise of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This earthquake drill is designed to practice the recommended response to earthquake shaking, which is dropping to the ground, taking cover under a sturdy desk or table and holding on until the shaking stops.

The Great ShakeOut is scheduled for 10:17 a.m. Oct. 17, and no matter where you are, FEMA asks that you drop, cover and hold on.
