Gov. Mike Dunleavy has vetoed a bill proposed earlier this year by North Pole Republican Rep. Tammie Wilson that would have limited the executive branch's ability to authorize certain positions for higher pay.
House Bill 48 sought to reclassify people employed in a temporary or special position from the exempt service to the partially exempt service. The move would require the use of statutory salary schedule, enrollment in the Public Employees' Retirement System, and other health care benefits and entitle the individual to accrue leave, according to a news release from the governor's office.
Dunleavy said he agreed with parts of House Bill 48 but noted a "partial veto" doesn't exist and based on his disagreement with the aspect of the legislation that limited the executive's ability to list certain positions under higher pay.
