FAIRBANKS — A 28-year-old Fort Wainwright man is set to face a court martial in July for allegedly raping a teenager in May 2014 on post.
Charges were filed against Spc. Nicholas Shane Marcum in March.
He’s accused of raping a victim “by using force” on May 14, 2014 said U.S. Army Alaska spokesman John Pennell. The victim was between the ages of 12 and 15.
Pennell answered questions about the case the case Monday after Alaska media were alerted to the existence of the pending case late last week.
Marcum is assigned to the Fort Wainwright-based 9th Army Band, Pennell said. He joined the Army in April 2012 and was stationed here after basic training in South Carolina and advanced individual training at the U.S. Army School of Music in Virginia. His address of record is Spokane, Washington.
He’s not in pre-trial confinement, Pennell said.
Marcum is set to face a jury panel of other enlisted soldiers on July 8 at Fort Wainwright.
Marcum is charged under Article 120b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice for the alleged rape. He’s also charged under Article 134 for allegedly violating Alaska law by providing alcohol to a minor, also on May 14, 2014.
Pennell declined to elaborate on the circumstances of the case against Marcum until the case goes to trial.
