FAIRBANKS — The former Anderson city clerk was sentenced to two years of probation Thursday afternoon for stealing more than $10,000 from the Parks Highway community.

As part of a plea agreement, Darla J. Coghill, 67, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree misdemeanor theft. She is under court orders to pay the city back $10,822.73 and could face a suspended sentence of up to six months in jail if she violates probation.

Coghill served as the clerk of the community of about 250 people from March 2008 to January 2012.

In their case against her, prosecutors said records showed she was overpaid $2,050 in time off and used her city credit card to pay for $8,772 in personal expenses, including her TV bills, denture adhesives and a plane ticket for her son.
