FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks man has been sentenced to serve 396 years in prison for sexually abusing two young children last year.

A jury convicted Arthur J. Augustine, 57, in January after deliberating for less than a day.

Augustine was sentenced in Fairbanks Superior Court this week to four consecutive 99-year terms, with none of that time suspended. He was convicted of two counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

The abuse occurred between January 2011 and February 2012. Augustine was arrested in February 2012 after Alaska State Troopers received a report of possible abuse from the Office of Children’s Services.

Augustine also has a child sexual abuse conviction from the early 1980s. That case occurred in Fairbanks and involved the abuse of two young girls.
