FAIRBANKS — A jury found a Fairbanks man guilty of assault this week for shooting at two Alaska State Troopers in a May 2012 confrontation near the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The jury took about two hours to find Stanley Pieniazek, 77, guilty of two counts of third-degree felony assault after a half-day trial, according to court records. The trial follows a hearing earlier this summer where Superior Court Judge Michael McConahy ruled Pieniazek is mentally competent to stand trial. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in January.
